January 2025 News from GSSI

The GSSI Office & Shop will be CLOSED on Monday, January 20, 2025,
in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
Important Cookie Program Reminders
INITIAL ORDERS:
Girl Initial Orders are due to troops! Please let your troop leader know your girl’s orders that she has on her paper order form. For any orders that were placed on Digital Cookie for girl delivery, these orders should transfer automatically from Digital Cookie to Smart Cookie (volunteer platform). Families, please confirm this number with your troop leader so that they know they have the correct order number in Smart Cookies. Any direct ship orders will already be accounted for on the digital platform. Parents and leaders do not need to do anything for these orders.

REACHING HIGHER GOALS:
Even though initial orders need to be turned in, girls can continue to take orders to reach higher goals! Any orders placed after the initial orders are turned in should be relayed to troop leaders so additional cookies can be collected when cookies arrive in February. Cookie booths are also a great way to reach higher goals! Make sure to communicate with your troop to make sure your girls are ready for cookie booths.

RECOGNITIONS:
If your girl qualifies for early recognition, this will automatically be added to her account. Girls will see the early recognition in February when cookies arrive. Families can go ahead and let their leaders know their girl(s) shirt sizes (for t-shirts and hoodies), so leaders can add that to their account. This will help when leaders place the main recognitions.

COOKIES ARRIVE:
Cookies arrive in our tristate area the week of February 3! Please make sure to communicate with your troop on the pickup process.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your troop leader(s), or to the council via email at cookies@girlscouts-gssi.org or via phone at 812-421-4970.

2025 EngineerGirl Writing Contest
EngingeerGirl, a program of the National Academy of Engineering, has opened its annual EngineerGirl Writing Contest! The theme this year is "Innovating Smarter," and they're asking girls to write a piece describing a common object they would make "smart," then tell them what it would do, how it would help people, and what could go wrong. This year's contest provides a great opportunity to dive into the topic of AI and the Internet of Things and could be a great way to kick off activities related to an engineering or STEM badge! The contest is open to all students in grades 3-12, and submissions are due by February 1, 2025. All details are available on EngineerGirl's website.
