2026 Equine Program Update

Dear Girl Scouts,
As we continue to look for ways to better serve Girl Scouts across our council, we are expanding equine opportunities to reach more members in more communities.
For many years, our equine program has created meaningful experiences and lasting memories for our members. We know that for some, these experiences hold a deep personal connection. At the same time, we’ve heard from members across all regions that access to equine programming has been limited by travel distance, cost, and capacity.
In fall 2025, we conducted an Equine Impact Study and heard clearly that more girls want opportunities to engage with horses and animal-based programming than we are currently able to provide. Many also shared a desire for these experiences to be available closer to home.
With this in mind, we will be transitioning away from a single-site equine program at Camp NOARK and moving to a model that partners with qualified facilities and instructors across our council. This approach allows us to expand access, offer a wider variety of experiences, and better align our resources to serve more Girl Scouts.
This summer, we will pilot this model through camp sessions. Our equine team has thoroughly vetted partners to ensure safety standards, program quality, and meaningful experiences remain a priority. Families of registered campers will receive additional details specific to their sessions.
We are also committed to thoughtful and ethical re-homing plans for each horse, based on their individual needs. If you or someone you know may be interested in providing a home for a horse, we invite you to complete the rehoming application by 4/19/2026. In addition, we are exploring how the barn and pastures at Camp NOARK can continue to support future programming.
We understand this change may be difficult for those closely connected to the program. Our goal is to honor what this program has meant while creating a path forward that allows more girls to benefit from these experiences.
