Where: Wesselman Woods, 551 N Boeke Rd, Evansville When: 10:00 AM-2:00 PM CDT Who: All girls in grades K-12 and their families Cost: $10/person for Youth (grades K-12), $5/person for Adults, and Free for Children (ages four and under) *Registration includes lunch for all registered attendees and one (1) Kona Ice treat for Youth (grades K-12).

Leaders: Honor & Golden Honor Troop Applications are Due October 1
|
Honor & Golden Honor Troops achieve the essential elements of a Girl Scout troop and provide overall excellence in troop management and programming in a given year. To achieve this honor, leaders and girls must work in partnership with each other, other troops, service unit team, and council staff.
Applications for the 2022-2023 membership year are due Sunday, October 1. For questions, contact support@girlscouts-gssi.org.

Upcoming Volunteer Trainings
|
Troop Camp Training When: Saturday, September 23 at 9:00 AM–Sunday, September 24 at 2:00 PM CDT Where: Camp Koch, 6160 E. State Rd 66, Cannelton, IN 47520 Cost: $22.50/person Troop Camp Training certifies volunteers to hold tent camping overnights at campgrounds and other outdoor locations. The training provides hands-on camp learning during an overnight experience. Skills covered include advanced fire building, various outdoor cooking techniques, tent care, Leave No Trace, and much more. Troop Camp Training is typically offered twice a year, once in the fall and also in the spring. *PREREQUISITIES: Fire Building and Basic Outdoor Cooking training must have been have taken at least six months prior to effectively practice skills.

Fire Building & Basic Outdoor Cooking Training When: Sunday, November 5, 12:00 PM–6:00 PM CDT Where: Evansville; address will be shared upon registration Cost: $12.50/person Registration Deadline: Monday, October 30 at 12:00 PM CDT (Space is limited; register early!) This course is designed to equip volunteers with the skills to effectively utilize the Girl Scout program in an outdoor setting. The activities learned could be done at troop meetings, parks, or backyards to familiarize girls with outdoor activities. With this course, you will be certified to conduct outdoor campfires for recreation or cooking. This class consists of in-person training and a review of online information prior to in-person training (40 minutes). Fire Building and Basic Outdoor Cooking is valid for three years and may be recertified online once the certification lapses.

First Aid & CPR Certification When: Saturday, November 4, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM CDT Where: GSSI Council Office, 5000 E. Virginia Street, Suite 2, Evansville, IN 47715 Cost: $26.50/person Registration Deadline: Monday, October 30, at 11:45 PM CDT (Space is limited; register early!) GSSI schedules First Aid/CPR certification courses with accredited organizations specifically for our Girl Scout volunteers. Individuals will learn to manage a variety of accidents, from scrapes and cuts to bruises, choking, and accidental poisoning. Volunteers are not required to complete this training through GSSI if they are already certified. Please note that GSSI will not accept certifications or recertifications from online-only courses.

The GSSI shop is now open for in-person shopping on Mondays from 9:00 AM–5:00 PM CDT.

Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors are invited to join the GSSI Astronomy Club!
|
|
Are you curious about astronomy? Then GSSI Astronomy Club is for you. This girl-led leadership experience allows Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts to explore the universe together. Our regular meetings focus on various fascinating topics in the world of astronomy. Each session ends with telescope viewing, weather permitting.
The September meeting will focus on astrophotography with an overnight campout for night sky viewing! The list of upcoming meetings and topics is available on the registration form linked below.
Girls must be registered for the 2023-2024 program year to participate.
The Astronomy Club is led by NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador and Girl Scout Volunteer Mandy Scurry; she can be reached at amanjohn@hotmail.com.

GIRL SCOUTS LOVE STATE PARKS PROGRAM AT LINCOLN STATE PARK When: Saturday, September 9, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM CDT Where: Lincoln State Park, Indiana 162, Lincoln City, IN 47552 Cost: Park admission is $7/vehicle for in-state and $9/vehicle out-of-state What: GSSI is excited to partner with Lincoln State Park for the nationwide Girl Scouts Love State Parks initiative! During this event, Lincoln State Park Interpretive Naturalist, Michael Crews, will start the day off by leading girls and their families and friends on the historic Mr. Lincoln’s Neighborhood Walk, followed by some fun, engaging activities led by various staff and volunteers throughout the day. Plus, girls can earn the Girl Scouts Love State Parks fun patch! LEARN MORE
GIRL SCOUT NIGHT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM When: Thursday, September 21, 7:00 PM CDT Where: Arad McCutchan Stadium, 1900 E. Walnut Street, Evansville Cost: $3/person; $2 for optional fun patch What: Girl Scouts and their families are invited to cheer on the UE Women's Soccer Team as they take on Valparaiso! After the game, Girl Scouts can meet the players and get their photos and autographs. For tickets, email Logan Belz at lb334@evansville.edu.
