Give Back this November
|
GSCSA will not be holding our annual food drives at our Leadership Centers this year. Instead, we encourage Girl Scouts to give back to their community this month in any way they can! Whether it be collecting for a food bank, cleaning up a local park, visiting a nursing home, or creating cards for those who need cheering up, Girl Scouts shine bright when they GIVE BACK.
If your troop would like a tangible reminder of their generous actions, you can purchase "Giving Back" patches in our shop.

Do you have what it takes to be a GSCSA Media Girl?
|
Media Girls is a new program where Girl Scouts can participate in social media, news, radio, and promotional opportunities, developing lifelong skills like public speaking, writing, presenting, and editing skills.
What Media Girls Do: Media Girls will have the opportunity to promote new and exciting things that may be featured on our social media platforms or website through video and photo. Such content can include troop meeting activities, cookie and fall product seasons, patch programs, recruitment efforts, and so much more! Some girls may also get to appear on local news stations or discuss the organization on local radio stations. The team will work collaboratively with individual interests and strengths, to generate organic content that represents our communities and the girls within them.

Where in the world is Camp Margaret Townsend? If you visit The Girl Scout Museum at Daisy's Place you will see a sign pointing the way, but what will you find? Camp Margaret Townsend is one of the many Ghosts in our Council. It is full of spirits and energy of days gone by.
While Girl Scouts began in the U.S. in 1912, "lone troops" started in East Tennessee in 1917. By 1922, Knoxville Girl Scouts were chartered by the National Organization. Outdoor experiences were a big focus for the girls. One of the first camps available was Camp Margaret Townsend, which now part of The Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. The property was donated by Colonel Townsend, owner of a logging company, and selected by his daughter, Mabel Townsend Ijams. In 1925 Camp Margaret Townsend was established and named after Mabel's late mother. It was a special place to girls and staff for 34 years until it closed in 1959. Today, The Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont is located there.
Learn more about our council's rich history by visiting our museum on your own or scheduling a troop program.
SEWING SCOUTS Would you like to learn how to sew using a sewing machine? Our Sewing Scouts are in full swing, with an entire school year's worth of activities planned. There is still time to join the fun and learn new skills. Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors, and adults are all invited; we meet monthly on the 2nd Saturday of the month at the Girl Scout Leadership Center of East Tennessee. REGISTER TODAY

Vol Resource: The Power of Mentoring in Prevention
|
|
|
Did you know that a strong, supportive relationship with a trusted adult is one of the most effective protective factors against substance misuse? As a Girl Scout volunteer, you have the opportunity to be that mentor. Research shows that youth who have a caring mentor are significantly less likely to engage in risky behaviors, including drug use. The Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring guide provides best practices for fostering meaningful and impactful relationships with young people. Explore these strategies and strengthen your role as a positive influence in your troop.
