Invest in Girls: Our Leadership! Our Well-being!
|
We know that each girl has the power to exercise her potential. We recognize the importance of amplifying girls’ voices and advocating for their inclusion in change-making spaces. By supporting and investing in girls, we can make the world a better place. On October 11, we celebrate International Day of the Girl (IDG) not only to give girls a platform to speak out, but to share girls’ achievements, triumphs, and contributions as we build towards a brighter and more equitable future for girls everywhere.
We encourage you to celebrate girl voices, girl stories, and girl action by participating in this year’s IDG-themed “Invest in Girls: Our Leadership! Our Well-being!” Download the activity guide and explore suggestions for how to engage girls in your area to participate this year.
We look forward to seeing how your Girl Scouts celebrate IDG 2023!

Girl Scouts Activity Accident Insurance
|
We are pleased to announce a terrific coverage enhancement to Girl Scouts Activity Accident insurance with Mutual of Omaha, effective October 1, 2023.
GSUSA and Mutual of Omaha have expanded the automatic coverage under Basic Plan 1 to minimize the extra cost to troops and reduce the administrative burden on volunteers. The coverage enhancement to Basic Plan 1 eliminates the need for troops and volunteers to individually order and pay for the extra Activity Accident insurance in two scenarios:
|
-
Non-member participation. Non-member participation is automatically covered. A non-member participant is any person invited to attend or participate in a Girl Scout-approved/supervised event.
-
Trips longer than two overnight stays. All domestic trips within the USA, regardless of time duration, are automatically covered under Basic Plan 1. There is no longer a time element involved.
|
Effective October 1, 2023—troops will no longer need to separately order insurance for non-members and/or overnight trips (within the USA), coverage for these scenarios will be automatic.

Kim Newlin
|
Volunteering has always been part of Kim Newlin’s "DNA". Taking examples from her mom on how to be an amazing volunteer, Kim stepped into her volunteer journey by becoming the Membership Lead, a Service Unit Representative, and a Troop Leader for Granite Hills. In 2018, an opportunity was presented to Kim and she became the SU 143 Team Leader! When not taking part in her Girl Scout life, Kim is a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner. She has worked for Sutter Health for 20 years, with her passion being focused on Cardiology, especially prevention. Kim also works with an international nursing organization to train and elevate nurses as leaders in the field of cardiovascular care.
