Don't Forget! Annual Financial Reports must be submitted by June 15
|
|
Annual Financial Reports are required to be submitted by June 15 to Council for the current year. The purpose of these reports is to provide our auditors the information required for our annual audit as well as for our annual tax return reporting to the IRS. Beginning in June, this information should be submitted through the Finance Tab in the Volunteer Toolkit.
Service Units are also required to submit an Annual Financial Report to info@girlscoutcsa.org.
What we need from each troop:
|
-
The Financial Worksheet, a tool to help you submit to the VTK. This is the preferred worksheet. However, you may use another format that provides the same information if necessary.
-
Six months of bank statements (December 2024 through May 2025).
-
The VTK Summary Report. The VTK shuts down July 1 for a few days. You will not be able to submit your Annual Financial Report through VTK after that date.

Safety Activity Checkpoints
|
|
Girl and adult safety is an important part of the Girl Scouting experience. The national Safety Activity Checkpoints is an essential resource to assist adults in planning activities with girls.
Every individual safety activity checkpoint has approval requirements and grade levels listed at the top of each activity. Some activities require Council pre-approval for higher risk activities.
|
-
If the safety activity checkpoint states approval is “required,” an Activity Approval Form must be completed.
-
If it states “not required,” council pre-approval does not need to be obtained.
-
If it states “may be required,” please consult council regarding the activity.
|
You are always welcome to submit an activity approval form if you are not sure whether approval is needed.
When submitting an activity approval form, please remember the deadline is a minimum of 2 weeks before the activity’s start date. For overnight trips outside of our region or any trip with younger girls, more time is often needed to ensure that the trip meets safety requirements. This allows staff ample time to take care of important details ensuring the national safety activities checkpoints (e.g., driver’s license checks, safety ratio) are followed.
Any questions may be directed to Janet Wheeler at 800-474-1912 x2005 or info@girlscoutcsa.org.

It's CPR/AED Awareness Week!
|
|
June 1-7 is celebrated annually as CPR/AED Awareness week. More than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the United States each year, and 90% of people who have a cardiac arrest will not survive. The American Heart Association, devoted to changing the future to a world of healthier lives for all, is calling on parents and families to make this summer as safe as it is fun.
According to the American Heart Association, more than 23,000 children experience cardiac arrest each year, with nearly 40% related to sports and nearly 20% occurring in infants. If performed immediately, CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival, yet less than half of people actually receive the help they need from a bystander. With school out for summer, children will be away from teachers and coaches who might be trained in CPR, making it crucial for parents to know this life-saving skill.
Children as young as 9 can learn the steps to Hands-Only CPR, which are as follows: call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. We encourage everyone to view this instructional video so you can be ready to save the hearts of those you love:

Be Seen in Your Community
|
|
Troop 40814 has formed a partnership with the Bledsoe County Fair to create a small community container garden at the fairgrounds. Girls have been planting and raising seedlings. They worked together digging in the dirt to clear planters and prepare the soil for planting. They have planned a green bean teepee and a Croc-Pot herb garden to provide a hands-on educational experience at the fair.
While working on their garden, they saw the need to replace a damaged flag and raised a new flag. "It was amazing to see them surround the flag to recite their Pledge, their GS promise and Law, and then sing the Star Spangled Banner all on their own."
Please share your stories and photos with us at socialmedia@girlscoutcsa.org! Please include a brief description (including date/location) of the event and/or project depicted, as well as the troop number(s).
