Highest Awards Banner
Highest Award Girl Scouts are rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes!
How do they do it? By using everything they’ve learned as a Girl Scout to help fix a problem in their community or make a lasting change in their world. GSHCC is proud to recognize the 56 recipients of the 2023 Girl Scout Gold Award, 25 members earned the GSHCC Rose Award, and 102 recipients of the Girl Scout Silver Award. Awardees from GSHCC will gather to celebrate their achievements on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Each recipient will be joined by their mentor who has helped them through their Highest Award journey.
Arwyn
One Girl Scout that will be honored in this year’s ceremony is Arwyn, who is receiving both her Girl Scout Gold and GSHCC Rose Awards. Arwyn’s Girl Scout Gold Award project centered around creating a student portal for her school’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program. She listed events and other extracurricular opportunities, both within the VAPA program, as well as in the greater Sacramento Artistic Community. Her project aims to further students’ abilities and gain real-world experience in visual and performing arts and expand their resumes and portfolios.

Congratulations Arwyn, and the rest of the 2023 Highest Awards Class on starting your lifetime of leadership. We are proud to recognize you and your dream of creating a better tomorrow.
Volunteer Spotlight
Monique Laughlin
Girl Scout volunteer Monique Laughlin has done it all! Always willing to help out wherever needed, Monique started as a co-leader of her daughter’s troop, then became a Troop Leader, Fall Product and Cookie Manager, and now serves on the Service Unit (SU) Team. She has also held many roles on Foothill Gold’s team—from Registrar, SU Cookie Team, SU Cookie Manager, SU Representative, and now Operations Lead! She feels so lucky to be a part of the troop she’s in; watching them grow and experience new adventures with each other, as well as other troops, has been a highlight of her volunteer career. Monique has now seen two of her Girl Scouts bridge to Adult, including her daughter! Outside of Girl Scouts, Monique enjoys researching her family history, which includes visiting cemeteries, as well as going kayaking and camping. Thank you, Monique, for giving so much of your time, energy, and expertise to the Movement and for supporting Girl Scouts in so many ways!

Volunteer Toolkit Archive Date
On July 10, the new 2023-2024 year plans will be available through the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) on your myGS account. The previous year plan will be archived under “Past Years.” Please note: Attendance and Achievements by Girl Scouts are NOT archived and should be downloaded by July 9 if you wish to maintain the records. Starting July 1, any new volunteers should gain access to the VTK. Renewing volunteers will not experience any changes. However, anyone who does not renew by September 30, 2023 will lose access.

Troop Finance Reports
The Troop Finance Report template is now open in the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK). Troops must submit their 2022-2023 report on or before September 30, 2023. Although troops will no longer have to submit bank statements with their financial reports, they should still hold on to all statements and receipts for two years. Starting October 30, 2023, the VTK will have the Finance Report for 2023-2024 year. Troops can enter data throughout the year and submit a report at the end of their troop year. Upon that submission completion, families will be able to access their Troop Finance Report through the VTK.

Find out how your support makes a difference!
The weather may have been unpredictable this spring, but Girl Scouts were determined to get out and do more. And thanks to our local partnerships and donors, more girls were able to get outdoors to learn new skills and gain knowledge in natural sciences!
