Dear GSHCC Volunteer,
The start of a new school year brings fresh energy and new adventures.
As you prepare for a new Girl Scout troop year, I want to take a moment to thank you. Your leadership, dedication, and commitment help create a brighter future for our Girl Scouts—giving them the courage, confidence, and character to shine. Your hard work means so much.
I am excited to announce and welcome Lani Longacre, MBA as GSHCC’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Lani has deep Girl Scout roots and extensive leadership experience—including time as the Chief Mission Officer for Girl Scouts San Diego and her recent role as VP of the Girl Scout Cookie Program at GSUSA. Lani brings a strong commitment to empowering girls and driving operational excellence.
At the same time, we are saying goodbye to long time COO, Marcella Cooper. Marcella was with the council for nearly a decade and is now taking extended time off from work to explore what her future might hold. We are so grateful for Marcella’s time at GSHCC and the positive impact she’s had on girls, volunteers, and staff. We wish her the very best in her next chapter.
As we look ahead, we’re also preparing for one of our biggest gatherings of the year. On September 6, we’ll host our eighth annual BIG Volunteer Conference, now enriched by the addition of the GSHCC Annual Meeting. It's a can’t-miss event for all volunteers. Join us at McNair High School in Stockton for a full day of connection, celebration, and growth.
I’ll kick off the Annual Meeting with a State of the Council address that includes updates and plans for the future. It will be followed by our Board-Approved awards and volunteer Years of Service and Membership celebrations. During the conference, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops on vital topics such as mental health, amplifying girl voices, troop finances, highest award updates, camp, and more. Whether you’re new to volunteering or a seasoned leader, this day is designed to inform, inspire, and equip you for the year ahead. Please save the date!
As you step into a new school and Girl Scout year, I hope you feel inspired and recharged. Whether you’re planning badgework, exploring the outdoors, or encouraging girls to lead in their communities, know that you’re changing lives—and I'm grateful for your service.
