Resilient. Ready. Strong. Banner
Recent studies have shown that girls are affected at a higher rate by the increasing mental health crisis in America. GSHCC recognizes the importance of improving access to mental wellness resources, de-stigmatizing mental illness, and general awareness of mental issues to our Girl Scouts and their future. We hope that Girl Scouts are always willing to push the envelope and create new ideas on how to help their communities with their mental well-being.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage you to explore ways you can improve your and your Girl Scout’s mental well-being. If you are a troop leader, reassure your troop that it is a safe space to talk, encourage them to share their feelings about what’s going on in their lives, and how to make everyone feel included. Strengthen their mental wellness by trying activities from the Girl Scouts: Resilient. Ready. Strong. program to unlock a patch and to help develop their mental wellness.

If your Girl Scout is looking for ways to support their own mental health and gain tools to help their peers, local programs and events are available through Sacramento’s National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
Volunteer Spotlight
Nicky Wang
Introducing, Girl Scout Leader, Nicky Wang. Her Junior troop has 15 amazing fourth graders in it! Nicky is also the Membership Lead and Representative for the Placer Gold Service Unit in Rocklin. In addition, she helps first-year Girl Scout leaders by serving as a New Leader Mentor for anyone who would like extra guidance during their first year. While she has many varied roles, her favorites are helping new leaders find the resources and info they need to be the best Girl Scout leader they can be and seeing her own troop of Girl Scouts grow and learn over the past few years. Nicky was a Girl Scout as a girl for 8 years, a Troop Leader for 5 years, and in Service Unit and Council roles for 2 years. Thank you Nicky for all you do!

Philanthropy Spotlight
two girls outside
Ask a girl what her favorite part of being a Girl Scout is and she’ll likely tell you it’s the opportunity for adventure, friends, and self-expression! Girl Scouting opens girls up to a world of possibilities as they build confidence in themselves and their skills—skills that will help them become the leaders of tomorrow.

Check out a special video message from local girls about their experience as Girl Scouts, and consider making a donation today on Big Day of Giving!
