Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast
Highlighting Girl Stories
This week's Cookie Alert highlight features Junior Girl Scout Adela from Troop 65107. Despite having Apraxia and a learning disability, Adela has been making progress and credits Girl Scouts to her success. Adela has this to say about Cookie season and her goals, "This is my sixth year being a Girl Scout. When it’s cookie season I have to take the initiative and talk to customers. I have to organize my wagon, cookie caddies, and table when I do my cookie lemonade stands or booths with the troop. I learn life skills like how to communicate with others, money management, and how to run a business. I actually started a summer business thanks to everything I learned from Girl Scouts when I was 6 years old. I have an actual lemonade stand. I’m saving up to buy an aerobatic plane and pay for my flying lessons. I want to be a pilot ever since I was two years old. I enjoy the company of the other Girl Scouts." Her Goal is to sell 3,500 packages and donane at least 24 packages to military service members. She is also challenging herself to sell one package or have one package donated from each state as well.

Tips and Tricks for Boothing!
In Person Cookie sale tips!
  • Set Your Goals! When you have a goal set, your customers want to hear about how they can help! Helping people see how their purchase will impact girls (or your troop) is a HUGE selling point.
  • Wear Your Uniform! Or Girl Scout prominent apparel. Girl Scouts is an iconic and trustworthy brand, wearing your uniform helps people instantly recognize that you are a Girl Scout and makes you more trustworthy. Plus a discussion about your badges/patches can connect you with customers.
  • Know Your Product and Where Funds Go. Discuss with your customers about your favorite cookie or a fun fact about a cookie your customers may not know. (Our cookies are vegan friendly, etc) If cookies aren't for them, tell them about Care to Share, and how they can donate to service men and women. Let them know their money stays in the community by staying local to your council and troop!
  • Be Appreciative, Even If They Say No. Make sure you are always polite and thankful. Girl Scout Law says, Girl Scouts do their best to be "honest and fair, considerate and caring." That applies to customers and non-customers. Consider a leave behind or tell them where to find cookies if they change their mind.
  • Decorate Your Booths! Cookie booths are a fantastic way to meet new people, share your goals, and show potential customers what being a Girl Scout is all about! Brightly decorated cookie booths tend to draw more attention and attract more customers!
  • Don't Be Afraid to Talk to People Walking by your Booth! You never know who might be a potential customer! Plus, you'll also get to practice building confidence and sharpen your people skills!
  • Make a Sign! Make fun and colorful signs to attract customers to your booth!
  • Prepare for the Weather! Make sure you check the weather before you set up your booth! Watch out for cold and rainy days, and dress appropriately for the weather!

IMPORTANT UPDATES & CHANGES
  • SELLERS: Make sure you are giving your girl(s) direct Smart Cookie link for sales to people you know. This ensures you, your troop, and your council is credited for the sale!

  • CREDIT CARDS: Be sure to tell customers to manually enter their credit cards when ordering. There is a glitch in the system when using auto-populate for credit cards. For more help reach out to
    ABC's Help line 1-800-853-3730 or ABCSmartCookieTech@hearthsidefoods.com.

  • OTHER ISSUES: We have had some parents not getting the girl delivery approval emails. This is due to them accidentally opting out of abc emails. Only an ABC tech can fix this issue.
Contact ABC's Help line 1-800-853-3730 or ABCSmartCookieTech@heartsidefoods.com to get this changed. You can also view direct ship facts here for those having issues with their direct ship orders.
